SPRING COMING
Davis W. Morton / 1995 / oil on canvas / 40 X 30 inches

Long before there were numbers on the street, Edward Sibley lived on Brink Rd. in Germantown, Maryland. He remembered his uncle leaving the property to go west in a wagon. I kept my horse Cricket on his property for 26 years.
The first spring after Mr. Sibley died at the age of 96, I was surprised, almost aggravated, when I saw the first flowers coming up. It was as though I expected them to do something different. Although I will always miss the way of life I had on Mr. Sibley’s farm, this painting is not about death or loss.  It is about the flowers being right.
